When My Computer’s Serial Port Malfunctioned

I am a micro-controller programmer. I usually burn my micro-controller programs to micro-controller using a micro-controller burner hardware that connects to my computer using serial interface. But I recently faced problem when my computer’s serial port got malfunctioned. I had no other option than to replace my motherboard and get a new one as I cannot delay my projects. But before that I did some research over the internet and found myself a very cheap and convenient solution for my need.

Let me share with you how I was able to get a new serial port on my computer without getting my motherboard replaced. I found a device called serial USB adapter. This device gets plugged into the USB port of the computer and then I connected the serial port of the micro-controller to the serial adapter. And after that I was able to use the burner as before.

Another method also available but needs help of a computer technician. This method involves the use of serial card. This card gets installed in the PCI slot of the motherboard and then you can plug the serial device to this serial card. If you get any trouble in your computer’s serial port then don’t go for the replacement of motherboard instead try any of these devices.
